SSDL1747 classical - an eternal album

release date: 20131217 label: pureambient

last updated: 20150624 current count of tracks: 14 (17) ++

++ [track 14, the "concerto no. 2 in a minor for guitar and oboe" appears in both full form as track 14, and also, split into three additional tracks, tracks 11, 12 and 13, recordings of each of the piece's three movements. this means that there will always be a disparity between the current count of tracks reported here (which counts this piece as one piece, not four, obviously) and the "actual count" of listed tracks in the album's track listing. this is why there are two different values reported - the actual, which counts the second concerto as one piece instead of four, and the "other actual", which counts the items literally, including the three separate recordings of the separate movements].

this is the fifth of many dave stafford "eternal albums" to come - albums that have no finite number of tracks or end date. as time goes on, I will add more and more tracks (which will be at a special low price) with no limit on the number of tracks or the amount of time that passes.

in this day and age, the "album" concept seems, perhaps, a little bit outmoded, and while I will still create traditional albums and also, offer my extensive back catalogue in traditional album form, I feel the time has come for something a little more...flexible.

I've long held a huge respect for classical music, and I have always loved the music of certain composers - such as J.S. Bach, Erik Satie, or Tomaso Albinoni to name but a few. over the years, I've always played the piano in the background, and occasionally composed more serious music, music that is classical in nature - and finally, the time has come to showcase some of that work.

as well as piano-based pieces, I'll be featuring orchestral classical works created entirely with the remarkable roland GR-55 guitar synthesizer - which can reproduce a wide range of classical instruments with relative ease, the roland is a joy to work with, and I was surprised more than once at how well the device works, and how I was able to realise my composition using the high quality instrument sounds of the GR-55.

as well as said orchestral works, I will also include other piano and mellotron-based compositions, so the "classical" eternal album will be an outlet for anything and everything that falls under the heading "classical" - anything from piano sketches in demo form to my first full-fledged concerto - which is the first track I have uploaded to the album.

creating this album is the culmination of years of work in the background of my main career as an ambient loop guitarist; composing many classical themes whilst playing piano or guitar, or, even whilst working live with an ambient guitar set up, creating live loops of classical strings or similar musical experiments of a classical nature - but having no outlet for any of this music - until now.

approximately four seconds of silence has been added to the end of each recording, to allow for any running order that you, the customer, desires (since this is a completely user-configurable album); this added silence in no way affects the quality of the tunes.

it's also advised that this music be listened to through headphones to experience the full stereo effect - we feel that the tracks are best experienced via headphones; in stereo - if this isn't possible, then the best available stereo speakers will have to suffice.

finally - thank you for listening!
