opposites attract

track: 02

recorded: 20160926 - 20161010

duration: 2:17

type: active ethnic / world music / synth / dubstep garageband composition

this one started out with a bed of carefully prepared drums and percussion, with an unexpected cello joining in immediately - the drum tracks including a section in the middle where two drummers are hammering out a theme together, as a beautiful funk synth bass and melodic synth play this astonishing riff in unison...

then, back to that mysterious cello that appeared at the very beginning - and then, the song changes yet again, to a lovely orchestral theme, backed by real manual Liverpool bass playing by myself - most of the bass is samples, but I am actually playing on that one lovely bit of orchestra and bass.

it has shades of both African and Europe, in that it contains african drums and afghani melodic string instruments. but it has this overall very modern sound that I also enjoy, and I think it's a lovely little excursion through a very broad range of styles and ideas - which is gone almost before you can grasp what hit you.

repeated listenings will reveal various looped percussive ideas, the african marimba, juxtaposed against a repeating synth riff, overlaid by the afghani string melody - not quite sure how I managed to fit all that together, but it worked beautifully - there is only one version of this - version one - and this is it. I

I really like the middle section with the extra tom toms and indian drums, it sounds so cool - but it is played behind pure funky synth and synth bass - and then, the most beautiful orchestra in the world arrives to soothe you - until you are thrown off the bus again into a mad world of stacked samples - brilliant fun to create, I can tell you.
