the simplest type of track construction possible, this is literally, a mix of tracks 35 ("abandoned reactor") and 36 ("cinematic trio") into a third track containing roughly 50 percent of each track - this track, "truth is gradually washed away...".
the resulting piece is absolutely wonderful, a pastiche of beautiful white noise and ambient soundscape from absynth, while the plaintive piano of "the giant" cuts through the synth landscape beautifully, with it's lovely reverse piano strings rising up as the white noise rises to meet the strings - a lovely series of wonderful musical collisions, where percussives from "the giant" dovetail beautifully with the more ambient sounds of absynth.
this session really went so well, and it all happened so fast - and I did exactly what I set out to do - create to independent tracks, one made with a synth based instrument, the other, with a sample based instrument - and then, I mixed them together to create a hybrid of the two.
I like all three of the tracks quite well, but "truth is gradually washed away..." was really the intended piece, the other tracks, the building blocks, but I enjoy all three - and I thought you might as well. a relaxing, lovely day in the studio, and I won't forget playing these two pieces of music, especially playing the piano sequence that is of course, underlying track 36, the one made with "the giant".
normally, I am not sure I go in for percussion in ambient music, it has to be just right, and in this case, even though some of the percussive sounds used in the "the giant" are quite loud and/or abrupt, I find that because of the fact that they are actually ambient sounds of the non-key non-string parts of a piano, that I really enjoy them in this unique combination of the synthetic and the real.
