this is a live performance, and this is a direct digital copy of the original piece, no editing, overdubs, or treatments of any kind were applied to the track - this is how it happened.
for my third foray into the remarkable iVCS3 synthesizer, I decided to try something somewhat more traditional, and while my first two pieces depended heavily on me adjusting parameters, via the control panel, to create textural and rhythmic change in the piece, this time, I simply "played" the synth, but, the triumph here is the voicing I have used, which is constantly transforming from very present, and quite trebly, to very dim, dull, and low pitched / bassy.
I love how then, I can play a simple melody, for three minutes exactly, and the synth modifies it just enough to make it interesting. Often with this synth, what you "play" is insignificant, it's more about what it's playing, or, what it's doing to any input you happen to provide - and, I can't wait to see how I can use the iVCS3 to modify the sound of other instruments (a la brian eno, running phil manzanera's guitar through his VCS3 on stage, and turning an ordinary guitar into outer space guitar before our very ears - and eyes).
this synth is utterly unique, and I can wait to get back to the second part of this session, recorded the next day, 20140411, to discover the music that was created there.
