a single pass of the hands, played with the sem synth, was then copied to a second track, and assigned to the cs80 to provide a second "voice". the two voices were then mixed together to create the final piece, making this in essence, a live performance.
basically, I sat down at my keyboard, and invented a piece of music that lasted for eleven minutes and five seconds, I just played it through as if I knew how it went, and as it went along, I found that I did know how it went!
once completed, I simply make a copy of the MIDI keystrokes and dropped it into a second track, so I could drive a second synth voice - and by chance, I happened to pick voices from the same sound designer, in this case - G. Darcey (aka "GTD"). I really like the ambient, ethereal nature of his sounds - one designed for the sem, the other, for the cs80 - but still, in a very clearly identifiable "GTD" style.
the chord sequence is just whatever tickled my fancy, just before the performance, I invented a strange dissonant chord, that I decided I would add to the improvised composition, so near the end of the take, I suddenly jumped up to this very, very odd chord - and held it for a long, long time - eventually reverting to the original theme, and bringing the piece to hopefully, a pretty ambient, melodic ending.
I really enjoyed using these two extremely high quality synthesizers from arturia's "v collection" - one of the best quality sets of synths available. and this track only involves two of them - there is a lot more to come from the "v collection" which contains something like 13 different instruments including a drum machine.
I seem to be having a good run of playing pieces live on the keyboard, and having them come out as whole entities, and this piece is another one in that vein - it's how I felt, on february 1st, 2016.
