note: starting with this track, "elements used" will no longer be listed.
after painstakingly and labouriously and completely manually typing out the "elements used" for these mixtikl compositions over the past several weeks, I've decided that the "elements used" for track 40, "back to kampala - the seven hills" will be the last - 40 is a good place to stop.
it's really a matter of time, it is just so difficult to find the time to type up first; the "elements used", and then; the descriptions, that I decided it would free up more time for composition, mastering and uploading, if I leave out the "elements used" - I hope you will be understanding of this. I have enjoyed having them, but it is a very time-consuming process, and I would rather spend the time on composition instead, if you see what I mean...
so - jumping right now into the description of track 41, "the oldest cinema in the universe" - working title, "the old cinema" - this track started out in a fairly unremarkable way, as a set of "picked" guitars into a large reverb, with a high pitched grand piano into another large reverb, which was setting the scene for other elements not yet decided.
I walked around with this half-finished composition for a couple of days, then one day, I decided to try and find some new element or elements that I hadn't ever used, something a bit different - and there it was, as if it had been waiting for me all that time - trumpets.
I added in three different trumpet melodies; and then added in a lovely delay to give them some spark - and in that instant, the song was utterly, utterly transformed, into something truly beautiful.
still feeling the track was a little sparse, I added in a supportive synth part, which was the perfect foil for the stuttering, beautifully delayed trumpets - and, "the oldest cinema in the universe" was suddenly complete.
I suppose it has to be considered to be "jazz" - which would make it my third venture into that genre with mixtikl, but I just think of it as music - beautiful, soothing, music with an unusual trumpet melody supported by some nice strings / synth bass sounds.
I really, really like this piece enormously, to the point where I would say it is currently my number one, top, absolutely favourite of all of my "active" mixtikl pieces - and I expect it will stay my favourite for quite some time. I can't stop listening to this track - it's very, very compelling, and it has a truly unique mood to it that is somehow, spellbinding. I could not be more pleased with the result here.
