a return to the ambient, this piece really just appeared and grew so quickly, I have no idea how it happened – quickly, quietly – and suddenly, it was there. I love how when the stars are all aligned, and the wind is at your back, I love how mixtikl just lines everything up for you, and gives you an amazing piece of ambient music with very little demand on you.
yes, I selected elements – as I always do (note, I almost always start with the “empty” setting – I’ve tried random mixtikls, but they usually don’t work out – I end up deleting all of the original random elements, and then I pick nice elements to replace them :-) ) and arranged them into a mix, but really, the tool should get most of the credit for this one – the samples are all beautiful, and I draw heavily on the “drone maker” module – and that pak gives you almost guaranteed success – it’s sort of the “scape” equivalent, it’s the one pak that always delivers consistently beautiful ambient samples, so if you grab several of these, and arrange them in almost any pattern, looped or in sequence, it matters not – you WILL end up with a beautiful ambient scape.
and, this piece does not disappoint – it’s dark, mysterious, it flows along, in waves, growing darker, then lighter, then darker, then lighter, like the last couple of hours before sunrise, when you can’t sleep…
I love the dark feel, the lack of high notes, the lack of treble, just – bass, rumbling discord, worrying drones…this is a less beautiful, less melodic, darker ambient than I might normally make, but ambient it is – still.
I think “sandpiper calls” unnerved me just a tiny bit, and I wanted to go back and make sure that I could still do ambient – so, “the ghosts of my life” was born, and, once thus re-assured, I could then move onto into the wild experimental era that began with “sandpiper calls” – briefly interrupted by this piece, “the ghosts of my life” – and now…off into the unknown again...beyond the pale :-)
