about
slower (stafford)
duration: 11:26
type: ambient
still being very new to creating ambient music with nanostudio, nevertheless, the original studio version of “slower”, my third-generation developed piece of ambient music, is in turns, sedate, sombre and spectral – a slow, haunting piece, that can be listened to actively or can just form a background for whatever you might be doing, it’s constructed of copied sequences, using the same voice from the eden synth, but on many tracks…with new variations introduced with each set of sequences.
the song is intentionally built up – it starts with just one layer, and then gradually, layers are added – so for about 3 minutes, the single layer of synth, then, for the next 3 minutes, two synths – or rather, one synth and one drum part; then three minutes later, a third layer is added…
finally, after another three minutes, the fourth and final layer is added, and then, another short section comprised also of four parts, is used as an ending. so the build is similar to that used for the previous long ambient track, "slow", but this time, using four main "sets" of sequences and a fifth short ending "set", too, instead of the three-sets approach used in the previous track, "slow".
"slower" is another long piece, very, very deliberate in nature, but I think that is what gives it charm – it just travels cautiously on and on, wandering and dreaming, until it finally comes to a close with a long, beautiful flanged note that gradually, gradually fades away to nothing.
