slow - prototype (stafford)
duration: 4:10
type: ambient
this prototype is the prototype of a longer piece entitled "slow", which in turn, is the prototype for a series of later pieces entitled "slower" - basically, the piece started here, with this short, totally ambient version, and over a period of time, first, it evolved into "slow" (the track following this one), and then later, into "slower" (which is represented by three tracks, which then follow "slow") - is that complicated enough for you?
it's basically a slow, ambient synth piece, with no percussion or active melodies, slow-moving and stately, understated - "slow" is one of those pieces that just appear, it's basically a live performance, and in this case, I don't think there are any overdubs - this is just what I played on the day.
I often start with a very basic track like this one, and then move onto more complex evolutions using of the track, but basing it on this simple original, and in the case of "slow - prototype", the most significant part of the story is probably the pieces that follow - from humble beginnings, etc. - but it's the development, the transformation to follow, that I find the most fascinating.
so this is how "slow" and then "slower" and then "slower - live" - this is where it all started - with this simple, ambient tune.
