"razor" is a synthesizer that absolutely astonishes me, the first time I opened it and played a note, the resulting sound literally nearly knocked me out of my chair. what a powerful sound! operating happily as a very, very thick, rich, monophonic synth or equally comfortable delivering beautiful polyphonic pads, "razor" is simply an enormous amount of fun to play.
for my first piece, I just improvised a melody, and let the patch ("big cinema") do all the heavy lifting, and while not particularly "pretty", the sound of the "big cinema" patch really grabs you, it's visceral, dissonant, and undeniably awesome - I love it.
"razor" is at the moment, one of my favourite synths within komplete, and I plan to use it for a variety of purposes over the years - a very, very capable instrument.
"razor sharp edges" features a sort of accidental ending which I think is very interesting, I played a short melodic improvisation, and then, I "ended" the piece by playing a single low note on the keyboard. then, I realised the "razor" was doing something absolutely extraordinary to the music, it was sweeping through frequencies and the pitch was rising as if I were keith emerson from the modular days...so, I just held the key down, and held it, and held it - to see what the synth would do. eventually, it reached a place of relative equilibrium, so I let go.
but I had no idea it would behave that way, and what it also means is, that about 50 percent of the song, the entire "last half" - is actually just a single note, and it's the longest ending around. really fun!
