rag bhairavi

track: 26

instrument used: india (native instruments)

recorded: 20160203

duration: 4:28

type: indian ensemble

my first effort with the brand new "india" instrument from native instrument, I've been waiting for a long, long time for one of the high quality sampling companies to come out with a tool like this, and as a long, long-time fan of Indian music, I am so glad to have this set of remarkable instruments in my collection.

native instruments know how to do things right, and "india" is no exception, the realism of the sounds, the thought that has been put into scales and modes and maintaining the integrity of the instruments throughout, is impeccable as always. but what a joy to sit down and "play" the bansuri or the sitar or the santur or even just a tanpura - these instruments all sound well lush, luscious, living, breathing music with a long, long history stretching out behind it.

I have started out modestly, as I have a lot to learn about phrasing and melodies, but for a first try, I think this piece is at least entertaining. I originally had a working title of something like "the last colonials" until I decided that I had better be as serious as possible about what I am doing here - so I named the raga after the style I used for the melodic and percussion instruments.

as far as the rest of "india" - it's a win-win-win, the "ensemble" feature is absolutely awesome, and along with that, you do get a good selection of melodic and percussive instruments.

I am in heaven, and from the moment I sat down to begin this piece, I could not tear myself away from those beautiful sounds...at last. I am extremely content now!
