during the research for the "music for visuals: live session" a number of overlooked takes were discovered stored with the original master of the one piece that was published on video.

much to my everlasting surprise, for example, on the "st. alia of the knife session" (the session of which this take, take 2, is an out take) I actually recorded no less than 18 takes; I have the master audio for all 18, and the video masters for 10. for reasons unknown, 8 of the video tracks were intentionally erased at the time - so only the audio remains.

since we want to bring you as much new music as possible, rather than depending on just the familiar or most prominent dave stafford recordings, we're going to take a deeper look - and it was this process that brought this remarkable track to light.

while my virtual oboe technique does, in a few spots, cry out for more experience, I am still very surprised by the kinds of melody lines I was able to play with less than two months' experience on the guitar synth (which is quite, quite difficult to play, for some of the voices, anyway).

I think this track is very nearly as good as the track that was eventually published, "st. alia of the knife", and some three years later, I;m really happy to discover this sonic brother of that track, which I've named "inside the keep: alia's secret" in honour of take 1.

take 2, this track,is longer, and perhaps, a bit more active, but some beautiful melodies still managed to appear, and one or two exciting, quick oboe riffs - very satisfying to play, really a lot of fun.
