Gong Native Suite

NOTE: if you have already purchased the two individual tracks “gong native” and “gong crazy”, you do not need to download this track, as it is simply those two songs joined together in one uninterrupted track, which is actually, the way I originally scored it and originally planned to release it.

The original piece, which was just “gong native” for a long, long time, was much longer in duration, and it had this strange, ambient long, long outro, that took on a life of its own…and this very long version of “gong native” is what literally became the two separate tracks, the loud part became “gong native” and the long, more ambient outro, became “gong crazy”.

so, I had decided to divide them into two, with “gong native” being the guitar oriented, “louder” rock track, and “gong crazy” being more ambient, with its strange percussive bed of gongs, tuned gongs, and timpani – I felt that the mood of “gong crazy”, was simultaneously more ambient and less “rock” than the section that became “gong native”.

now that some time has passed, I am now also making the “full version” available, the “original intention mix” if you will (since one long track actually is what I originally intended) – originally, it was just one long song, instead of two – but now, I wanted to present it in this “how it would have / should have / might have been” format, so that in the future you have a choice of whether to download the two individual songs, or this track, which is simply the same two tracks concatenated. Finally, for the completists out there, of course, you can download all three .

note: please also, read the original, individual comments for the two separate tracks above, “gong native” and “gong crazy”, to get the viewpoint from the actual time of completion and release of each piece.

20140817 new comments for the “full version” / concatenated version of the two songs, the “gong native suite”:

I was happy enough with my decision, half-way through the scoring of the original, full-length alternative version of “gong native”, to suddenly cut the song in half, and give the second half, which was basically a long, semi-ambient “outro”, its own title and its own identity – as “gong crazy”.

over time, I then completed and published both tracks, but it’s always been at the back of my mind that I would really like to feature a “full length” version of “gong native”, with its long outro still intact, as if “gong crazy” had simply never existed.

since some reasonable time has passed, I now felt it was worth the time to create a special mix that demonstrates that the original concept was indeed, a good and viable one, and that it is entirely possible to enjoy this piece of music now re-assembled into a single musical entity, or, in the original official release as two shorter tracks, each with its own unique musical character. it works for me both ways.

I don’t really have a favourite, because I think both the single "original intention" version presented here, and the two subsequent single tracks that were released earlier, are equally valid in any guise – it just works for me, either way. happy listening!
