about

ambient

elements used:

codachords_sweep_genmix6
shiftharm_particles_genmix6 (2 iterations)
sombre_droplets_genmix6 (2 iterations)
bc_dark_genmix6 (2 iterations)
bc_bright_genmix6 (2 iterations)

if you will note, the “elements used” are plucked directly out of the middle of the previous piece, “codachord chromosone” – and this is a straightforward deconstruction job: I took away elements from “codachord chromosone” until I got to the point where I had a completely different sounding track – and, an ambient track at that.

reminiscent of a gently tinkling music box with a built-in randomiser, I really like the resulting ambient piece – if I had not have told you, you would almost certainly never made a connection between the two pieces – yet, as it turns out, even though they sound completely different – they both share an identical five-element ambient heart.

I love the idea though, that I could take a track as active and cheerful as the previous track is, and strip it back to reveal something so quiet, so ambient and so, so lovely – and this is one of the genius moments of mixtikl – the fact that you can basically mutate any track into a completely different track, often, bridging the ambient to active gap, or the active to ambient gap – it works fine either way – and it works beautifully in terms of results.

so – two very, very different songs, but sharing the same central DNA. I think that is fabulous.
