well, this final version is all about harmonic variation, which is explored in the first part of the piece, but then, we return to that wonderful 1960s organ / sitar solo section – where the organ and the sitar trade off riffs, they then play together in unison or in harmony, they try to “out-solo” each other, all with great success.

I took the “scottish reel” theme from “not daft at all” and developed it further here, creating several different variants of that one “riff”, but once I’d worked through those, I knew the track needed something more, so as with each one of the three parts of this suite, I added in new elements, a chromatic, slowly stepping-up part that leads up to the sitar and organ solos / duets at the end.

I think this piece rocks, it’s a snappy little pop number with an absolutely accidental scottish influence, but I think that’s great, it’s one of those odd things that happen with the fairlight – I was just sequencing an organ riff, as part of a prog piece - but when I played that one measure back…suddenly, I was in the heart of scotland. which is where I am literally – “scotland’s heart”, stirling, scotland. this musical accident could not have been more perfect, and I am very, very fond of this particular variation, “daft pop / reel”.
