"current control"

track: 07

recorded: 20140112

duration: 13:34

type: active / ambient

tempo: 51 bpm

chords: C Dm Em F G Am

mixer sounds:

01 Bells: Felt Bells
02 Bass: Fretless Womder
03 Pads: Swirl
04 Pads: Transformers
05 Keys: Mk II Vintage Tremolo

“current control” is the fourth entrant in the frank herbert/bill ransom “destination void” book series, this time, I’ve selected a nice bell sound, a fretless bass, a couple of really interesting pads, and a fantastic sounding keyboard with a beautiful, classic tremolo. perhaps these are more “traditional” instruments (except the pads) and that did make a difference, but, the overriding quality is once again: ambient.

“scape” is pretty much dedicated to ambient music; it’s possible, but difficult, to create dissonant or other musically uncomfortable scapes. “mixtikl” can create active music with no problem, and I’d say it is equally capable of generative ambient and generative rock or active or even jazz music. “drone fx” is more like “scape” in this regard than it is similar to “mixtikl”, but that is really OK, as I’d rather have a majority of tools that will consistently produce truly ambient music – in fact, really, all three of these tools are capable of that – it’s the active stuff that’s mainly in the area of “mixtikl” – but as long as one of them can do it – then I have both worlds – the quiet and the noisy, the ambient and the active…at my fingertips.
