about

crashing seas (stafford)

duration: 3:34

recorded: 20140117

type: active

this began with an intentionally very, very powerful drum part, with lots of driving bass drum and driving snare drums - I wanted a powerful basis to work from.

next came the bass part, which came together very quickly, leaving me with a nice basic track over which to play a melody.

I wasn't sure what that would be, but then I was tinkering with my favourite eden synth voice, "distorted view", and I created a variant of it with almost no attack, which I then went on to use as my solo synth voice - and the most amazing thing about it was that I played the solo as one take, and what you hear on the final track, is that live performance - with one exception, there was a part about half way through the song that I really liked, so I replaced a very small section with a live rendition of the favourite part - so it would recur later in the song.

that part is quite odd, because of the "no attack" voice, it sounds like a violin playing octaves across two strings, but it was literally the same voice as all the rest - the playing style of bouncing back and forth between C4 and C5 caused that violin like sound, and then it reverts to it's normal synth sound. I liked that octave sound so much, I borrowed the idea, and replayed another bit of it about 3/4 of the way through the track.

I am getting better at nanostudio drum tracks, and I think that this is one of my very best - and it beautifully underpins the bass and synth parts, I am very pleased with the way this track has turned out.
