this is certainly the most ambitious studio track I had undertaken to date, written in seventeen sections, it was my imaginary conclusion to one of my favourite albums, "consequences" - hence the "parts 18 - 34" - godley and creme having done the first seventeen back in 1977 - "parts 1 - 17".
the writing, performance and assembly of the pieces into this 51 minute plus whole, took up a good part of a year, working sporadically, but eventually, I completed it - and then undertook the decision to create a bonus disc of "track" versions of the seventeen sections - which follow this "full" assembled version. more time spent then, creating versions that would standalone - very meticulous work.
I did enjoy this process, in particular, one section, "2003...a merman I have turned to be" is very close to my heart, again, because it uses a drum track from my favourite drone forest drummer, michael j. bowman - which I had a great time flanging, very carefully, to make it sonically similar to "1983...a merman I shall turn to be" by jimi hendrix; in fact, this piece is totally inspired by that track from the "electric ladyland" album, right down to the reversed guitars and flanged cymbals - I really loved working on that piece in particular.
like all massive works, it requires patience, but amid the prog-like bombast, there are some lovely moments of music, some humourous moments, and repeated listening will hopefully bring more rewards - after all - it's at least quasi-prog, so I would expect no less from a 51-minute long song! :-)
