dron-E is an add-on synth for use in the komplete environment, and I have to say, of all the different software packages out there, there are possibly none as well-suited for ambient music creation as this one.
in my modest collection, and out there in the full marketplace - dron-E is a real stand out, it's sound libraries seem almost purpose built for the ambient aficionado - and when it came to constructing this piece, I felt that the software proved it's worth from the get-go.
long on atmosphere, and every voicing available seems to be all about atmosphere, the sound palette within dron-E was the perfect musical arsenal to tap into for the creation of "bewildered".
clearly, it enabled me to enter a very dream-like state, to the point where, I was able to play for almost 32 minutes, completely live - and this track is the result. one pass of the hands, no overdubbing required - that's just me sitting at the keyboard, playing dron-E - and marvelling at the sounds that were pouring into my headphones.
I think for me, too, to be able to sit down and create a live, 31-minute-plus piece of beautiful, dark, creepy ambient music, as a first time user (this was my first time using the software, believe it or not) I just found it to be astonishing - every key I pressed, every chord I played, every bass note I held down - every action I made on the keyboard, translated into pure ambient music - what more could I ask for?
one of the best piece of ambient music software that there is, dron-E takes pride of place in my collection, and I can foresee using it whenever dark ambient is required, the range of possible voicings is very impressive, and I absolutely plan to work with dron-E a lot more in future sessions.
for now though, have a listen to "bewildered" - which was probably how I felt just after completing this remarkable piece of music - it's not too often you can sit down at your keyboard, and play for 31 minutes plus and have it come out sounding this beautiful - maybe that's why I called it "bewildered" - I do not know.
