about
beautiful metallic noise
track: 35
recorded: 20160615
duration: 6:02
type: electric guitar and ebow guitar - live solo performance with drums added after the fact
the third of 8 tracks especially created to showcase over one hour of improvised electric guitar recorded during the making of "planet obelisk" - on the multi-track master of "planet obelisk", on June 15, 2016, I laid down a 65 minute live session comprised of 26 takes - 25 of which are presented here (take one was unusable due to digital distortion - input levels were too hot, so the track had to be scrapped), strewn across the 8 "tracks" so you are getting two, three or even four improvs in each of the 8 "tracks" - this seemed a better option than creating 25 tracks. This track contains takes 8, 9, and 10 of the original 26 takes.
At the very beginning of the track, on the start of take 8, you can hear a beautiful metallic noise made by the energy bow as I bring it down onto the guitar strings - hence - this song's title.
this session was recorded using the remarkable Eventide H9, and in particular, this session featured the "SpaceTime" algorithm, which on the day this was recorded, was a brand new algorithm added to the H9's ever-growing library of amazing sounds.
I decided to try out "SpaceTime", and in honour of that, the original session was known as "SpaceTime Jam 1" - which I think, sums it up nicely.
These tracks are not perfect - they are improvised, but you are hearing them almost in real time - the spaces between them were not altered in anyway, so any "gaps" between the 25 takes that you hear in one or any of the 8 larger tracks presented here, was the actual amount of time I spent between takes - long enough to select the next SpaceTime patch - and away I went again. There were no other effects added - this is the exact sound as recorded on the day.
I hope you will enjoy these live improvs [with added drums] as much as I did - it was a lot of fun, and it also provides a great view of what "SpaceTime" can do for you sonically - another brilliant algorithm from Eventide - I hope they never stop creating new ones...it was an absolute joy to work with.
