about

another wrong door

track: 01

recorded: 20140410

duration: 5:23

this is a live performance, and this is a direct digital copy of the original piece, no editing, overdubs, or treatments of any kind were applied to the track - this is how it happened.

after a few warm up test takes, I began to work seriously on trying to create drones using the awesome emulation of the classic 1969 VCS3 - the iVCS3. this is an incredibly complicated and complex synth animal, with it's frankly bizarre pin matrix and it's amazing repertoire of sonic delights.

"another wrong door" as a title, alludes to one of my early guitar craft pieces, from the "1867" album, entitled "the wrong door", hearing this drone on first playback, it struck me that it sounded like what you might find if you accidentally went through the wrong door...again.

at first, a strangely soothing drone, but after a few moments, the drone starts to emit a strange, morse-code type of modulation, in various configurations, which brings new rhythms to an otherwise unmoving drone. the rhythmic variations were created via the very careful adjustment of parameters on the iVCS3, and it was with a real sense of wonder that I experienced this track as I recorded it live - I just love this sound, and it was then that I really started to fall in love with this strange synth.

returning to drone mode near the end, the piece gradually fades away into nothingness. I really like the mood and feel of this piece, and I hope you will too.
