about

a passage of time (stafford)

duration: 4:40

tempo: 38 bpm

record date: 20120807

instruments:

1 MUSICBOX
2 SAUCER
3 SYNBELL1
4 SYNBELL5
5 NEW
6 CORNETH1
7 SYNTRUMP
8 CRSHCYM1

after six months of learning the fairlight application, I sat down and created this, my second “long-form” sequence (at almost five minutes in this instance) – only the second such piece to appear in the dave stafford fairlight canon. I love the way this piece is set up; tuned percussion is once again the order of the day (as evidenced by the first four voices noted above) – the melodic interplay of the two main voices, “musicbox” and “saucer”, supported by two different synbells (which often work in close harmony with one or the other of the main voices).

as a secret weapon only to be used near the end of the piece, the two synthetic-sounding horns bring a completely different feel to the song as it draws to a conclusion. driving, proggy synthpop, the "full length version" at last.
