SSDL1752 music for apps: gadget - an eternal album

release date: 20140712 label: pureambient

last updated: 20151121 current count of tracks: 11

hello and welcome to the eternal album, “music for apps: gadget”, which of course features the remarkable, innovative and very exciting korg "gadget" app - an application that features no less than fifteen different synthesizers, including drum machines, bass synths, lead synths, even an ambient synth - and having fifteen different korg synthesizers to choose from, to mix and match in any combination or quantity - is not a bad thing at all !!

I think that gadget came as a bit of a shock to the ipad/ ios music application fraternity / sorority, sure, we are used to awesome synthesizers appearing with frightening regularity, and various MIDI, audio, and MIDI + audio "studio" applications offer varying layouts, some with no synths at all, some with a single synth and a drum machine and so on.

so for korg to casually drop "gadget" into the app store, well - I for one was pretty shocked by it: hard to absorb the fact that it has FIFTEEN, count them, fifteen synthesizers to choose from ! as far as playing / recording / editing, well, korg must have done their homework, I've yet to crack the manual, and I "figured out" how to set up a session, and record, without any assistance.

you couldn't really ask for a cooler package: each of the fifteen synths is beautifully laid out, very modern, very beautiful graphics, it's very, very easy to operate and figure out, the editing is a bit fiddly but once you get used to it, it's simple enough...

with fifteen sound sources, the possibilities are...endless. for example, for track three, "while you were sleeping", I dropped in six iterations of the ambient synth, which allowed me to build up a really beautiful ambient sound. alternatively, on other tracks, I am using five or six different synths, and blending sounds between five or six or more synths - is fantastic! there's never been a studio app with this many synths - so once you get over that shock, you can just enjoy playing and recording with gadget.

korg have really done it this time, I can really see the huge potential of this app, and I am sure I will be able to use it to create a huge variety of types of music, of which it is more than capable. time will tell, but I think gadget will take it's place right up there with the other studio apps, and it's also got a bunch of great sounding synths, too - so it's win, win, win, win...fifteen times a winner :-) :-)

and now - to the music!

dave stafford: korg gadget application

all tracks composed, arranged, engineered, recorded, mixed, mastered and produced by dave stafford for pureambient records.

all instruments and sounds by dave stafford.

technical note: approximately four seconds (or more) of silence has been added to the end of each recording, to allow for any running order that you, the customer, desires (since this is a completely user-configurable album); this added silence in no way affects the quality of the tunes.

it's also advised that this music be listened to through headphones to experience the full stereo effect - we feel that the tracks are best experienced via headphones; in stereo - if this isn't possible, then the best available stereo speakers will have to suffice.

finally - thank you for listening!
