a session from early 2013 yielded this rather strange but somewhat wonderful piece.

a very, very carefully chosen set of sounds, including some real corkers such as “bowed glass-k” which I love, and also, this one, “piano sparse maj chords” – which does exactly what it say on the tin – occasionally, it plays a sparse, major chord – which is so, so cool. I love random musical events, and I hope to use them more in future compositions.

I lovingly set these all out, and worked again, for ages, on the reverbs for each voice, and getting the levels set just right, and the end result is yet another intense, beautiful mixtikl piece – this one is so dense, so deep, that I can’t really describe it with words – it has to be experienced to be truly understood. another one I could listen to forever, and another piece that attested to the quality and workmanship that has gone into mixtikl – an application whose creators are clearly determined to get the creation of generative music right, to give us the best of breed, the best sound packs, and the ability to create complex music of exceeding beauty – that’s mixtikl.

this piece in particular exceeded my expectations, and when I was mastering it, when I reached 27 minutes and 00 seconds exactly (which, I didn’t know at the time), I pushed “STOP” at just the right instant – and ended up with a more perfect, natural ending than I could have ever dreamed of. everything went right with this piece, and I can’t wait to sit down with mixtikl again, and create some new musical dreamscapes like this one…the sky is the limit.
