about
from zero to hero (ambient version)
track: 11
recorded: 20151121
duration: 1:17
type: pureambient
a second, incomplete version of "from zero to hero" existed on the end of the original recording. I made several attempts to create a second version of the song with it, but, I just was not feeling happy with the results, and I very nearly gave up, and only presented track 10 - the original version.
however, I persevered, and I tried some new ideas, including, removing the drum track entirely, and taking the three most ambient tracks, and reversing them, and placing the reversed copies strategically near the end of the track, so that it goes from ambient to super ambient quite quickly - and I love the strange and weird way it gets there - the electric piano part ends, and instantly, the reverse electric piano picks up it's melody, only...backwards, meanwhile, the wonderful synth sounds, having also been reversed, create an eerie background to the fading electric piano track - and it just ends in a very beautiful, bassy note of some description - into complete silence.
I am really glad that I kept going, and found a way to make use of this second, completely different version of the song, and I am glad I altered it further still, by removing content, and then, reversing content - it just came out right, and I am very happy with the result.
also - I love the brevity of it, it's one of the shortest ambient pieces I've ever done, and I love very short ambient songs - because they take shape, live their life, and then quietly disappear in the blink of an eye - but for the short time they are here, they can transport you or at least, transform your mood - and I love the mood created by this little piece.
I took the six tracks from the unused, unfinished "version 2" of "from zero to hero", and I created an ambient version of the song using the pieces. the original six pieces are actually, all "in situ" with just track 2, the drum track, silenced, and then copies were made of the three most ambient of the remaining five tracks, which were then reversed and added to the end of the piece, to transform what was an active piece, into a very short, but very ambient piece of music. I hope you enjoy the results.
