rev - desolation - live improv
track: 04
recorded: 20150406
duration: 8:34
type: ambient
"desolation" is a bit of a departure, it's a different feel to the other three tracks so far uploaded, I just sort of fell in love with this odd tone, and I wanted to see what I could do with it in a live setting - so I literally, dialled up the tone, hit "record", and started playing.
I can tell you right now, that depending on how you press, hit or strike the keys, you can get a myriad of slightly differing tones out of this patch, from those low, breathy, almost-breathing-like low pitched chords and chord fragments, to a number of more mellow (when you play legato) sounds...or, to more intense sounds if you play normally - and also, the speed that you play a melody at, has a huge impact on "what comes out" - and I delighted in playing revolving melodies that almost disappear, because the attack is set to a point where you can't really discern the full notes - which I think gives this piece an absolutely unique quality - when I stop playing chords, and just solo - the song almost disappears!
eventually, I start to slow down, and as I do, the song returns, gradually - but don't forget, I did nothing at all to this track, adjusted no dials, did no treatments, added no effects - it's all down to the velocity and the attack of the voicing - and I had an absolute blast playing this unusual piece of music - and I love the major seventh chords - that's a nice touch, too - very "adventures in a yorkshire landscape", sans guitars, of course. :-)
a firm favourite, there will be tons more to come from the beautiful REV - I really love this software, it's truly beautiful, and I think "desolation" has a great sound, and that's entirely down to the genius programmers who designed it - brilliant work, and playing reversed sounds on the keyboard is wonderful - works for me!
